Inside Cricket by Paul Jones: Jacques du Toit making big strides
Thursday, September 9th, 2010“If Claude Henderson walks away with Leicestershire’s player-of-the-year award it will be a fully-deserved reward.
“James Taylor and Matthew Hoggard could be in with a shout but the major challenger to Henderson has to be Jacques du Toit.
“In many ways du Toit is County’s best-kept secret. He has been with the club since 2005 but did not really break through into the first team until 2008.
“Bearing that in mind, despite being 30, he remains a developing talent, having played just 26 first-class games to date.
When he gets it right, he is mightily effective, too, in all forms of the game.
“His timing is delightful off either front or back foot and he is arguably the cleanest striker of a ball at the club.”

Midfielder Franck Moussa is happy to play waiting game at Leicester City
Thursday, September 9th, 2010Midfielder Franck Moussa says he is happy to play a waiting game for his big break at Leicester City.
The 21-year-old Belgian midfielder has been used off the bench in City’s two Championship matches since arriving on a free transfer from Southend United last month.
Moussa did start in City’s Carling Cup win at Leeds and looked impressive in a reserve-team defeat to West Ham on Tuesday.
City boss Paulo Sousa has said that Moussa is a player for the future who would not be rushed into first-team action.
“What happens is up to the manager and all I can do is try to impress him whenever I get the chance, but I’m happy to be patient,” said Moussa.
“The lads have made me very welcome and the manager is trying to make it easy for me, so I don’t have any complaints.
“He was the main reason I came to the club and now I’m working hard to adapt to his style of play.”
Moussa played more than 100 games for Southend during a five-year stay with the Essex club, so being on the bench is a new experience.
“It is what it is. The manager has a squad of good players and I’ll add to it when I can,” he said.
Moussa had his first taste of Championship experience as a 17-year-old when Southend played in the second tier during the 2006-07 season.
“I’ve had a taste of what it is like playing in big games, and now I’ve got more experience I’m confident I won’t be fazed by anything when I get my chance.”
Moussa was one of the reserves’ stand-out players in the clash against the Hammers, which was settled by a goal from the visitors after just 16 seconds.
He said: “It was one of those games where we started sloppily and were punished but after that we settled down and there was a lot of quality play out there.
“But it is one of those training-ground matches which are all about fitness. It is important I am ready if called upon by the manager.”
Gary Silke column: Time to get ‘fierce’ on trip to Coventry
Thursday, September 9th, 2010“Yes it’s ‘M69 Derby’ time again, the heavyweight clash that the Football Fans’ Census organisation ranked as the 26th fiercest derby in British Football. Imagine that. There are only 25 more ‘fierce’ fixtures than ours! That many Leicester fans consider Nottingham Forest or Derby to be much greater rivals than Coventry has been well documented in this column, but City supporters will play their part as usual, with an impressive 5,000 of us making the short trip.”
