Eriksson says Leicester City were well worth win over Nottingham Forest

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Sven-Goran Eriksson reckons Leicester City thoroughly deserved their 1-0 Championship victory over Nottingham Forest last night.

Andy King’s eighth goal of the season proved to be the difference between the sides and earned a victory which will mean a lot to the Blue Army.

“I think we deserved to win on the basis of the chances we created and on possession,” said City manager Eriksson.

“I think today we were the better team. We created chances and we kept the ball very well in the first half but we didn’t hurt them and get in behind them.

“We passed it and passed it but we needed to pass it in behind their midfielders and defenders.

“We were much better in the second half and were much more dangerous. We played more direct. We started the second half very well and scored one goal and should have had one more.

“We can discuss whether it was a penalty for Forest, I don’t know, and they created a couple of chances and Chris Weale produced two very good saves.

“But I think we thoroughly deserved to win.”

Forest manager Billy Davies said that referee Michael Oliver said he got it wrong when he did not give the visitors a penalty following Greg Cunningham’s trip on Robert Earnshaw.

“I spoke to him as he came off the pitch and he admitted he got it wrong and it was a pivotal moment because it was only 1-0 and we were enjoying a good spell,” said Davies.

“Referees are only human but it was a big decision. But we didn’t deserve anything from the game.”

City midfielder Richie Wellens admitted it should have been a penalty, but added that City could have had spot-kicks awarded.

“I was tripped from behind but he didn’t give it and then there was a challenge on Darius Vassell, so both sides might have had a penalty,” he countered.

Davies added: “I’m disappointed with our play.

“We did not compete enough or pass well enough or dominate the game in midfield. I’m very disappointed.”

Andy King fires Leicester City to victory over Nottingham Forest

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Andy King struck in the 58th minute to earn Leicester City a 1-0 Championship victory over Nottingham Forest at the Walkers Stadium.

King hit  his eighth goal of the season to see off Billy Davies’s Forest and complete back-to-back derby victories at the Walkers Stadium.

City deserved the victory after again creating a host of chances, but one proved to be enough to get City back on track after their defeat at Bristol City last week.
