A last-gasp equaliser from Iain Hume sees bottom side Preston claim a vital point against Leicester at Deepdale.

Preston North End 1 Leicester City 1

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Yakubu marked his Leicester City debut with a goal but it wasn’t enough to beat struggling Preston North End.

Former City favourite Ian Hume struck in the last minute to salvage a point for the hosts as Sven-Goran Eriksson’s men were denied their third consecutive Championship victory.

Yakubu, on loan from Everton, produced a clever finish on the hour to reward City for a strong display against the basement side at Deepdale, and Paul Gallagher struck the woodwork twice as City made most of the running against Phil Brown’s side.

However, Preston snatched a late equaliser in a game City should have won. Top scorer Andy King even missed a one-on-one chance in added time.

Alan Birchenall column: Cup tie is a classic

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

“Well I can’t start this week without mentioning the great FA Cup tie last Sunday. I mentioned in my last column how much I thought of the FA Cup and, after last week’s game, say no more – but I will.

“There was a full house, end-to-end chances for both sides, and a great debut by Sol Bamba. He could have had a hat-trick.

“I said to him afterwards that he has set a standard and we want to see that every week. So, no pressure now, Sol.”
