Matt Oakley pays tribute to Leicester City fans

By LCFC | March 28, 2011

Midfielder Matt Oakley has urged Leicester City fans to help turn the Walkers Stadium into a fortress again next season.

City have lost their last two home games, but they have an excellent home record overall this season and Oakley, who has signed a new one-year contract, said the fans were key to that. Oakley and team-mate Steve Howard dropped in last week to help staff at the Walkers Stadium ticket office and Fan Relationship Management Centre ahead of Thursday's Early Bird season-ticket deadline.

After spending some time processing applications and meeting some of the supporters, Oakley paid tribute to the Foxes faithful. "The supporters have a massive part to play in the Club's future and I think they know that," he said. "If we score first at home, we can go and destroy teams and that's what helped us go on that run between January and February – teams were almost beaten before they got here.

"If we get off to a good start, the fans make this place impressive and I'm sure they'll do the same next season."
