Alan Birchenall: Mission possible is aim for Leicester City next season

By LCFC | April 30, 2011

Well, it's not to be this season – probably. But the virtually impossible became nearly possible. Maybe next season our campaign will start in August and not in October.

I still feel Paulo Sousa was unlucky in so much as certain things did not go his way, such as Andy King's three 'goals' which weren't given and would have earned us four or five points at that time. We would have been in mid-table.

That is football, and you don't always get the decisions, but I thought they were all good goals and Kingy would have had a few more to his excellent tally.

The decision was made and, as King Power took over, they recruited one of the top coaches in the world. We made a good fist of it but, unfortunately, we ran out of some steam just at the end. Every team has its blips.

To get to the stage we have reached has been a feat in itself but I believe we will go even further next season. I have also been encouraged by the type of football Sven likes to play. There have been some complaints that we have overplayed but you can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.

I promise the City fans this – it is going to be an exciting period for our club.

Top and Vichai Raksriaksorn have made it know they want to get this club back into the Premier League as soon as possible and have demonstrated their commitment.

That is pressure but in Sven we have the man to handle that pressure.

I can promise all City fans that this summer will be the busiest I have experienced in my 40 years with the club.

Plans are already being put in place for a new, exciting City team. I don't think there will be a massive clear-out because we have quality players at the club already.

It will certainly be a very busy summer for chief scout Bill Green, who will be working as hard as a one-armed paper hanger.

You can rest assured, Sven will not leave any of his worldwide contact stones unturned as he moulds a City side the fans will be proud of next season.
