Portuguese defender Miguel Vitor keen to extend stay at Leicester City

By LCFC | April 30, 2011

Portuguese defender Miguel Vitor wants to stay at Leicester City, manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed.

Eriksson said he is trying to secure the services of all six of his current loan signings for next season's promotion push.

Vitor, who was brought to the club by previous manager Paulo Sousa, has pledged his commitment if parent club Benfica allow him to stay in English football.

"I don't know if Benfica want to take him back but Rui Costa (Benfica director of football) is one of my contacts in my phone to call," said Eriksson.

"But I know Miguel wants to stay if Benfica don't take him back. What he said, which was very nice, was that the biggest surprise was how good the football was for a second division. He said it was fantastic.

"The qualities of the teams are very high and it is very competitive. It is good.

"Vitor (inset) has learned a lot this season and has really enjoyed himself."

Ben Mee and Jeff Bruma have also expressed their desire to stay at the Walkers Stadium for an extended period, if Manchester City and Chelsea respectively agree, and Eriksson said the loan players had fitted in well.

He will also try to secure the services of Yakubu, Patrick van Aanholt and Diomansy Kamara, but changes to the loan laws may prove a problem. It is expected that the number of loan players allowed in the 18-man squad will be cut from five to four.

"I think the loan lads have enjoyed it and they have been good to us," he said.

"Maybe some of them have a lack of experience and some mistakes come from that. But that is not their fault, it is more my fault.

"I am sure they have liked it here and I am sure they have learned a lot.

"It has been good experience for them because many of them have no experience of league football.

"It has not really been difficult to integrate the loans because they are clever guys and good players. They have a good mentality."

Eriksson added: "There has been no case of them coming in and being snobbish.

"They don't feel they are above the others. They are good people. That is very important.

"I think a decision will be taken in the middle of June and the rules might change so we will only be allowed to have four in our 18-man squad, and we will have to have that in mind."
